5. Oil leak inspection
If a shaft drive component is suspected
of leaking oil, first thoroughly clean the
entire motorcycle. The apparent loca-
tion of an oil leak on a dusty motorcycle
may be misleading. Dry the motorcycle
and apply a leak-localizing compound
or a dry-powder spray that will limit the
flow of any leaking oil. Operate the
motorcycle prepared in this way for the
distance necessary to locate precisely the
leak. There is the possibility that a
component housing may have been
damaged by road debris or an accident,
or a gasket or a seal may be cracked or
broken. However, on a new or nearly
new motorcycle, an apparent oil leak
may be the result of a rust-preventive
coating or excessive assembly lubrica-
tion of the seals. Always clean the motor-
cycle and recheck the suspected location
of any apparent leakage.
5. Recherche de fuites d'huile

L'emplacement apparent d'une fuite
d'huile sur une motocyclette sale peut
induire en erreur. Secher la motocy-
clette et appliquer une pate de localisa-
tion de fuite ou une poudre, presentee
en vaporisateur, qui limitera Pecroule-
ment de toute fuite d'huile. Utiliser la
motocyclette ainsi preparee sur la dis-
tance necessaire bien localiser la fuite.
Un carter de composant peut avoir ete
endommage par des debris sur la route
ou par un accident, ou un joint ou une
bague d'etancheite peut etre fendu ou
casse. Toutefois, sur une motocyclette
neuve ou presque neuve, une apparente
fuite d'huile peut etre le resultat d'un
traitement anticorrosion ou d'une ex-
cessive lubrification des bagues d'etan-
cheite lors du montage. Toujours hien
nettoyer la motocyclette et recontrbler
l'endroit suspecte de presenter une fuite
d'huile.

schmutzigen Motorrad konnte sich eine
Olverluststelle als Fehlbeurteilung
herausstellen. Motorrad trocknen und
ein spez. Pr6parat zum Auffinden von
undichten Stellen oder einen Trocken-
spray auftragen, welcher an einer undich-
ten Stelle den Olverlust hemmt. Nun das
auf diese Weise vorbereitete Motorrad
fahren, bis die Olverluststelle sichbar
wird. Es besteht die MOglichkeit, dag ein
Gehgusebauteil durch Stralknschmutz
bzw. einen Unfall beschgdigt wurde,
oder eine Dichtung (Oldichtring) Kratzer
aufweist bzw. gebrochen ist. Ein ver-
muteter Olveriust an einem neuen oder
fast neuen Motorrad konnte jedoch auch
von einem aufgetragenen Rostschutz-
mittel oder von einem abermailig gasch-
mierten Bauteil stammen. Das Motorrad
immer sauber halten und verd5chtigte
Olverl uststel len vermehrt priifen.
