12.4 Replacing the diaphragm and pump head

CAUTION!
Diaphragm:
– Before changing the diaphragm, the pump must always be placed in
maintenance mode, see
position of the pump - [Pump service]' on page 162 .
– Only tighten diaphragms by hand and do not use any tools .
The service life of the diaphragm depends on the following:
– back pressure
– operating temperature
– and metering medium
We recommend changing the diaphragms after max. 400 operating hours
or annually. The replacement intervals are, however, dependent on the
abrasiveness of the substances to be metered.
You should conduct extra checks in extreme operating conditions.
NOTICE!
It is absolutely necessary to comply with the values specified in chapter
Ä Further information on page 189 in order to ensure the tightness and
intactness of the thread.
The tightening torque of the dosing head screws are also specified on a label
on the pump head.
Note the following points during assembly:
– Fit new protective diaphragm in the correct position.
– Insert the intermediate plate in the correct position.
– Turn the adapter plate clockwise until the diaphragm rupture drain faces
down.
– Mount the pump head and pay attention to the direction of flow
– Hand-tighten the pump head screws and then firmly tighten them
crosswise.
– Prior to start-up and after 24 hours of operation, the dosing head screws
must be tightened diagonally.
– To avoid damage to the thread, it is not permitted to exceed the tightening
torque. If the tightening torque is not met, this can result in leaks.
