K-MINC-2000 Instructions for Use
4. Installation and setup
4.1 MINC+ Benchtop Incubator
An installation and setup checklist has been included in Section 4.15.
This must be used to help ensure correct preparation before using the
device.
IMPORTANT NOTE: To reduce the risk of electrical damage, the use of
an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with power conditioning capabilities is
strongly recommended. To ensure uninterrupted device functionality, the use
of the following is also strongly recommended:
• An automatic gas cylinder changeover unit that can maintain a
minimum pressure of 135 kPa.
• A remote alarm response system to alert staff to any failures in the gas
or power supply.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Use of cables other than those provided by the
manufacturer of this equipment could result in increased electromagnetic
emissions or decreased electromagnetic immunity of this equipment and
result in improper operation.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This device has been certified by an independent
testing authority for use with USB and with remote alarm cables less than
3 meters in length.
4.2 Unpacking and contents
IMPORTANT NOTE: It is important to retain packaging for future use.
(Refer to Section 6.6.)
WARNING: The incubator is heavy – it weighs approximately 24 kg
(53 lb). Use the handholds at the base of the incubator when lifting the device.
To avoid injury, two persons should lift the device when it is being moved.

The following items are supplied inside the box:
• MINC+ Benchtop Incubator.
• MINC+ user manual.
• Disposable humidification flasks (two flasks – K-MINC-2000-HF).
• Braided Connecting Tube (3 m length) (K-MINC-BCT-10-300).
• Medical grade mains power cord.
• USB flash drive with DishTrace PC software.
• Ethernet cable for connection to a network, or PC.
• External alarm connector on rear of device.
• Magnetic patient identification plates (12) on each chamber lid for the
recording of patient information.
• Gas inlet T-piece with thread protector and blanking cap (on rear of
device).
• Test tube cradle in the media warming chamber.
• USB cover in the front panel USB port.
Check the MINC+ and all items immediately upon receipt to make sure
that the contents are complete and that nothing is damaged. The
manufacturer will only honor claims for compensation that are forwarded
immediately to the sales representative or Cook Medical service agent.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Remove all items from packaging except the
disposable humidification flasks, which need to be handled under sterile
conditions.
4.2.2 Must be supplied
The following items are required in order to use the MINC+ but are not
supplied:
• A clean source of mains power. The use of a UPS with power
conditioning capabilities suitable for your local power supply system is
strongly recommended.
• Premixed medical grade gas. All gas concentrations should be within a
tolerance of ± 0.2%. Cylinders should be supplied with a certificate of
analysis.
• A single-stage high-purity gas regulator that can supply the gas listed
above at 150 kPa (1.5 bar, 22 psi) to the MINC+ gas inlet.
• An automatic gas cylinder changeover unit. To ensure the continuity of
gas supply, an automatic changeover unit is strongly recommended.
• A source of sterile, distilled water.
• A pressure manometer to measure the input gas supply pressure. This
item is not required if the regulator has gauges that display the gas
output pressure.
• A 9/16 inch wrench (spanner) to tighten the connections of the Braided
Connecting Tube.
• A PC/laptop with an ethernet connection for the DishTrace PC software.
• Ethernet network access if multiple incubators (up to a maximum of 50)
will be used with the DishTrace PC software.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If a longer Braided Connecting Tube is required,
contact your Cook Medical representative for further details.
4.3 Front of the device
Front controls
The front of the MINC+ incubator has two easy-to-use control panels
with backlit buttons. Each function is displayed on the screen above the
buttons so that what is happening in each chamber can be easily seen.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Front panel control panel buttons are touch-type
proximity sensors and do not respond to increased finger pressure. The MWC
temperature adjustment buttons are push-switch-type buttons and do not
respond to increased finger pressure. Buttons do not auto-repeat if touch is
sustained; move finger clear of pad and touch the button again to repeat input.
