T h e 5 - p o r t c y l i n d e r i n d u c t i o n s y s t e m is s i m i l a r t o t h e
S c h n u e r l e l o o p s c a v e n g i n g s y s t e m in t h a t t h e t w o
m a i n s t r e a m s (a) o f fresh f u e l m e e t a t t h e c y l i n d e r
w a l l o p p o s i t e t h e e x h a u s t p o r t s , and d e f l e c t u p w a r d .
T h e n , t h e s t r e a m s again d e f l e c t d o w n w a r d , f o r c i n g
o u t t h e b u r n t gases t h r o u g h t h e e x h a u s t p o r t s .
A d d i t i o n a l l y , in t h e 5 - p o r t c y l i n d e r i n d u c t i o n S y s t e m ,
t w o a u x i l i a r y t r a n s f e r passages are so arranged t h a t
these t w o p o r t s r u n f r o m t h e b o t t o m o f t h e c y l i n d e r
u p t o t h e same h e i g h t as t h e m a i n t r a n s f e r p o r t s .
T h e r e f o r e , w h e n t h e p i s t o n c o m e s d o w n t o b o t t o m
d e a d c e n t e r , these t w o t r a n s f e r passages a r e o p e n e d
a n d f u e l is p u s h e d u p f r o m t h e c r a n k c a s e t o t h e
c y l i n d e r t h r o u g h t h e t w o h o l e s in t h e c y l i n d e r .
In t h e c o n v e n t i o n a l S c h n u e r l e s y s t e m o f p o r t i n g , t h e
b u r n t gases (b) c a n n o t b e c o m p l e t e l y c l e a r e d o u t o f
the c y l i n d e r , r e m a i n i n g in t h e c e n t e r o f t h e c o m b u s -
t i o n C h a m b e r as s h o w n i n F i g . 3 - 2 - 1 .

Le Systeme de distribution du cylindre ä 5 lumieres
est similaire au Systeme de balayage ä boucle de
Schnuerle, en ce sens que les deux courants princi-
paux (a) de carburant frais se rencontrent sur la paroi
du cylindre opposee aux lumieres d'echappement,
d ' o ü ils sont devies vers le haut. Ensuite, les deux
courants sont rabattus de maniere ä expulser les gaz
brüles qui sont evacues par les lumieres d'echap-
ment.
E n outre, dans le Systeme de distribution par cylindre
ä 5 lumieres, deux passages auxiliaires sont pratiques
de teile sorte que ces deux lumieres partent du fond
du cylindre pour arriver ä la meme hauteur que celle
des lumieres de transfert principales. De ce fait,
lorsque le piston descend vers le point mort bas, ces
deux lumieres sont ouvertes et le carburant est pousse
ä travers ces deux ouvertures vers l'interieur du
cylindre.
Dans le Systeme classique ä lumieres de Schnuerle, les
gaz brüles (b) ne peuvent pas etre totalement evacues
hors du cylindre et ils restent au centre de la chambre
de combustion, comme le montre la Fig. 3-2-1.
