6) C a r b o n B r u s h e s
a. If t h e c a r b o n b r u s h e s d o n o t f u n c t i o n c o r r e c t l y ,
e l e c t r i c i t y c a n n o t pass t o t h e r o t o r f i e l d w i n d -
ings. T h i s r e d u c e s a l t e r n a t o r O u t p u t .
b. V i s u a l l y i n s p e c t t h e c a r b o n b r u s h h o l d e r a n d
b r u s h e s f o r o b v i o u s b r e a k a g e o r w e a r . S t a n d a r d
b r u s h l e n g t h is 1 1 . 0 m m ( 0 . 4 3 3 " ) , w e a r l i m i t is
6 . 0 m m ( 0 . 2 3 6 " ) . A l s o c h e c k f o r c a r b o n d u s t o n
t h e b r u s h t h a t c o u l d c u t d o w n m a x i m u m p o s -
s i b l e O u t p u t .
c. If h i g h r e s i s t a n c e e x i s t s i n e i t h e r t h e green o r
b l a c k b r u s h w i r e , it is f r a y e d o r b r o k e n . R e p a i r
o r r e p l a c e t h e e n t i r e w i r e ( c h e c k w i r e t o b r u s h
s o l d e r j o i n t ) .
c. Reglez f ä c h e l t e de l'ohmmetre sur une valeur
minimale de l'ordre du kilo-ohm. F i x e z une
sonde de mesure au b o i t i e r du stator et touchez
chaque f i l blanc avecl'autre sonde. L a resistance
doit etre infinie.
d. S i les valeurs de resistance des Standes b et c ne
sont pas conformes, c'est que les enroulements
du stator sont brises, en court-circuit o u en
contact avec le b o i t i e r . Remplacez l'appareil
tout entier.
6) Baiais de carbone
a. S i les balais de carbone ne fonctionnent pas
correctement, le courant ne pourra pas passer
vers les enroulements du rotor. Ceci reduirait la
tension de sortie de l'alternateur.
b . V o y e z si le porte-balai et les balais presentent des
signes d'usure ou de rupture. L a longueur
Standard d'un balai est de 11 m m . L a limite
d'usure est de 6 m m . Verifier egalement s'il n ' y a
pas de poussiere de charbon sur les balais, ce q u i
pourrait causer u n affaiblissement du debit.
c. S i les balais o u le porte-balai sont endommages,
remplacez l'ensemble, etant donne que ces pieces
sont fixees en permanence l'une ä l'autre. S i l ' u n
ou l'autre des fils vert et noir des balais p r ä s e n t e
une räsistance tres älevee, on peut en deduire
q u ' i l est effilochä o u casse. Reparer ou rempla-
cer la t o t a l i t ä du f i l fautif (verifier la soudure
entre le f i l et le balai)
