Sign tag data

When data is signed on data carriers, additional data is
added to the actual data (TID, EPC, user data) with the
help of a secret key and a calculation algorithm, which is
later used to verify the authenticity of the data.
A 224-bit secret (private) key and an elliptic curve algorithm
are used, which offers a high level of security.
When reading the data carriers, the data is accepted as
valid only if the following conditions are met:
1. There is a signature.
2. The signature with the correct secret key of the
operator was generated.
3. Neither data nor signature were changed afterwards.
UHF data carriers (tags) with at least 64 bytes of memory
available in the user area that do not have to be used for
application data can use the tag signature. The f
/
commands must be used for this. Here, the first

usually includes the EPC and the TID of the tag as well as
a secret key and can only be generated by devices that
have the same secret key.
The key must be generated and programmed into the
device by the person setting it up (see chapter 7.3.6 on
page 82). The key should be stored securely and
protected against unauthorized access. In the device itself,
the key is stored securely in the Secure Element.
In order to sign tag data or verify the signature,
the customer must import their own private key
into the Secure Element of the device. To import
a key, a special license must be purchased from
Balluff Sales: The key update ticket.
