2.1

Intended use

The BIS U-6127-... UHF processor unit, together with a
maximum of 4 connectable UHF antennas, forms the
BIS U identification system.
The processor unit provides network functions for
connection to a higher-level Ethernet TCP/IP network and
is intended for contactless detection and processing of
UHF RFID data carriers in an industrial environment. The
processor unit may only be used for this purpose.
The BIS U UHF RFID processor unit may only be operated
within the approved countries (see information sheet on
conformity and approval) and in compliance with the
nationally applicable legal regulations.
Flawless function in accordance with the specifications in
the technical data is ensured only when using original
Balluff accessories. Use of any other components will void
the warranty.
In the event of damage resulting from unauthorized
intervention or improper use, installation or handling
contrary to the provisions of this user's guide, any
warranty, guarantee and liability claims against the
manufacturer are rendered void.
2.2

Reasonably foreseeable misuse

The products are not intended for the following
applications and areas and must not be used there:
In safety-oriented applications in which personal safety
depends on the device function
In explosive atmospheres
In food applications
2.3

Explanation of the warnings

Always observe the warnings in these instructions and the
measures described to avoid hazards.
The warnings used here contain various signal words and
are structured as follows:
SIGNAL WORD
Type and source of the hazard
Consequences if not complied with
► Measures to avoid hazards
www.balluff.com
The individual signal words mean:
NOTICE
Identifies a hazard that could damage or destroy the
product.
CAUTION
The general warning symbol together with the signal
word CAUTION indicates a hazard which can lead to
slight or moderate injuries.
2.4

General safety notes

Installation and startup may only be performed by
qualified personnel with basic electrical knowledge.
Qualified personnel are persons whose technical
training, knowledge and experience as well as knowledge
of the relevant regulations allow them to assess the work
assigned to them, recognize possible hazards and take
appropriate safety measures.
The operator is responsible for ensuring that local safety
regulations are observed.
In particular, the operator must take steps to ensure that a
defect in the device will not result in hazards to persons or
equipment.
If defects and unresolvable faults occur in the device, take
it out of service and secure against unauthorized use.
The product must not be opened, modified or changed. In
case of defects and unrepairable malfunctions of the
product, it must be taken out of operation and secured
against unauthorized use.
The antennas of the identification system BIS U transmit
ultra-high frequency electromagnetic waves. IEC 62369
stipulates that personnel must not remain within close
range of the UHF antenna for long periods (several hours).
The processor unit and connected accessories may only
be supplied with limited power, according to UL 61010-1
Third Edition, Sub. Clauses 9.4 or LPS according to
UL 60950-1 or Class 2 according to UL 1310 or UL 1585.
If the maximum current consumption is exceeded, the
processor unit and connected system components may
be damaged. During operation, it must be ensured that the
total current carried via the Power connection does not
exceed 3 A.
The voltage output (L+) on the IO-Link port and digital
outputs (I/O) are supplied via the Power connection. The
sum of the partial currents of these pins must not exceed a
maximum current of 2 A.
