Application planning (continued)
SingleTag or MultiTag operation
There are three states that can occur in the detection
range in front of the antenna:
No data carriers
One data carrier
Multiple data carriers
The data carriers present in the detection range are
detected during an Inventory (e.g. Scan command),
entered in a tag list and, if necessary, transmitted to the
application.
If there is only one data carrier in the detection range of the
antenna, data can be written to or read from the data
carrier immediately. This operating state is called
SingleTag mode.
If there are several data carriers in the detection range of
the antenna, the tag list must be evaluated. Before data
can be written to or read from a data carrier, a data carrier
must be selected (Select command). Data can only be
read or written after the data carrier has been selected.
Exceptions are BulkRead and BulkWrite commands, which
perform all these steps for each tag, and
ReadMultipleTagDataFormatted and UniversalTagList
commands, respectively.
Access time to a data carrier
The access time described here refers to the
amount of time that elapses during the execu-
tion of an inventory command.
The elapsed time until the BIS U-6127 can access data
carriers depends primarily on two factors:
1. If a high-speed Miller 2 coding
(RX: 320/160 kbps; TX: 80 kbps) is used, the access
time is about 29% shorter than with the standard
Miller 4 coding (RX: 160/40 kbps; TX: 40 kbps).
However, the reliability declines and, in addition, high-
speed codings are not permitted in all countries.
2. The number of data carriers in the detection range of
the antenna is more important. If there is only one data
carrier in front of the antenna, the duration of an
Inventory command is the shortest. If, for example,
there are 10 data carriers in the detection range, the
access time can take twice as long.

Typical access times to data carriers (default setting:
RX: 160/40 kbps; TX: 40 kbps) are shown in the following
table. The times given are examples and vary statistically.
They also depend on other settings, in particular the initial
Q-value.

Bulk application
If several data carriers are to be reliably detected during a
scan, the antenna power must be increased compared to
reading individual data carriers. This also works if the data
carriers are moving at low speed.
With a clever antenna arrangement and the evaluation of
multiple scans, it is possible to detect all data carriers in a
bulk application.
Using the loop filter (see page 25) can significantly
increase the reliability of an application.

Operating modes

The BIS U-6127 processor unit supports multiple operating
modes to establish optimal integration into your control or
IT environment:
Synchronous operation
Asynchronous operation (with loop filter)
Synchronous operation with loop filter, live or
cumulative mode
Autonomous operation
The operating modes refer to the detection of single or
multiple data carriers and the readout of data. They differ in
how much automatic pre-processing the device is to
perform and whether the data read from the data carriers
are to be retrieved by the device or provided unprompted.
Writing data to data carriers is always done in synchronous
mode.
