Strings
As from firmware 2.8, you can also read and write strings up to a length of 32 characters
using EtherCAT. There are two new CoE objects for the purpose.
0x5805 Object dict read response (Long); the subindices are as for 0x5801 (Index,
Subindex, Error, Value)
0x5806 Object dict write request (Long); the subindices are as for 0x5802 (Index,
Subindex, Padding, Value)
The objects are only available as acyclic CoE objects. They cannot be included in the
cyclic data as PDO. The existing CoE objects 0x5800, 0x5801, 0x5802, 0x5803 for 4-byte
objects remain unchanged.
Read an object as usual via object 0x5800. The response is in 0x5801 (but only the first
four bytes) and in 0x5805 (32 bytes).
You can also write data types other than strings with 0x5806; the object works for all
data types and objects of 1 ... 32 bytes length.

of firmware 3.2:
