Charging voltage
Both chargers (for battery A and battery B) are monitored. If a
charger does not work properly for more than 10 seconds, the
warning "Fault, charger 1" or "Fault, charger 2" will appear in the
display for the charger concerned, and the appropriate yellow
indicator light "BATTERY A -> BATT./BATT. CHARGER FAILURE"
or "BATTERY B -> BATT./BATT. CHARGER FAILURE" will flash.
Digital output DO1 for common fault is also activated. When the
fault no longer exists, the fault indication will be reset
automatically.
Motherboard
The motherboard of the controller is monitored. In case of failure,
the yellow indicator light "DIESEL CONTROLLER FAULT" lights
up in the control panel. Furthermore, digital output DO9 is
activated, which means it will still be possible to start the fire
pump set by bypassing the controller via the two buttons SE1 and
SE2 behind the glass panel. See fig. 1.
Pressure switches
The two pressure switches are monitored by monitoring the
closed-circuit current (closed-circuit current resistance 392 Ohm,
load current resistance 1492 Ohm) to detect wire breakage and
shortcircuit.
The start command lines are redundantly designed; each
pressure switch is connected to a monitoring and start command
trigger line.
In case of wire breakage or short-circuit of the cable, the alarm
message "Alarm, press. 1" or "Alarm, press. 2" will be shown in
the display, and indicator light "CONNECTION SENSOR ALARM"
will light up. Digital output DO2 will also be activated. When the
fault no longer exists, the fault indication will be reset
automatically.
Oil pressure
When the engine has been calibrated, the oil pressure is
monitored via a pressure sensor on the engine. If the oil pressure
becomes too low, indicator light "LOW OIL PRESSURE" lights up.
The display shows the message "Low oil press.", and digital
output DO1 for common fault is activated. The fault is indicated
when it has existed for more than five seconds. The engine will
not be stopped in case of low oil pressure. The fault must be reset
manually by pressing [R].
Temperature
When the engine has been calibrated, the temperature is
monitored via a temperature sensor on the engine. If the
temperature of the engine cooling liquid becomes too high,
indicator light "ENGINE OVERHEATED" lights up. The display
shows the message "Overtemperature", and digital output DO1
for common fault is activated. The fault is indicated when it has
existed for more than five seconds. The engine will not be
stopped in case of too high temperature. The fault must be reset
manually by pressing [R].
Fuel tank level
The fuel level in the diesel fuel tank is monitored.
If the level in the fuel tank falls below 70 %, indicator light "FUEL
DEFICIENCY" lights up. The display shows the message "Fuel
reserve", and digital output DO1 for common fault is activated.
The fault must be reset manually by pressing [R].
8
Fuel valve position
The position of the fuel valve is monitored.
When the fuel valve is closed, the contact at the inlet is open.
The warning message "Valve closed" is shown in the display, and
indicator light "VALVE CLOSED" is on. Digital output DO1 for
common fault has also been activated. When the fault no longer
exists, the fault indication will be reset automatically.
The sensor cable for the monitoring of the fuel valve position is
also monitored for wire breakage and short-circuit (closed-circuit
resistance 392 Ohm, open-circuit resistance 1492 Ohm). In case
of sensor cable fault, the alarm message "Alarm, tank level." will
be shown in the display, and indicator light "CONNECTION
SENSOR ALARM" will light up. Digital output DO2 will also be
activated. When the fault no longer exists, the fault indication will
be reset automatically.
Cooling water heater
The circuit breaker of cooling water heater F2 is monitored. If the
circuit breaker trips, indicator light "ALARM COOLING WATER
HEATER" lights up. The display shows the message "Short-
circuit", and digital output DO1 for common fault is activated.
Generator
If the generator fails, the warning "Altern./Belt" will be shown in
the display. The monitoring function is only active after
calibration. Monitoring is based on the speed signal from the
generator when the engine has been started. Alternatively, the
signal from the speed sensor can also be used.
External faults
If an external fault occurs, "External fault" will be shown in the
display, and digital output DO1 for common fault will be activated.
Depending on version, the engine may be started when the
contact is closed. "Extern" will appear to the right in the top line of
the display as the cause for starting. The fault must be reset
manually by pressing [R].
The sensor cable is monitored for wire breakage and short-circuit
(closed-circuit resistance 392 Ohm, open-circuit resistance 1492
Ohm). In case of sensor cable fault, the alarm message "External
alarm" will be shown in the display, and indicator light
"CONNECTION SENSOR ALARM" will light up. Digital output
DO2 will also be activated. When the fault no longer exists, the
fault indication will be reset automatically.
5.3 Options
Louvre control
To ensure a sufficient supply of fresh air to the engine and a
targeted heat removal, it may be necessary to install louvres.
The louvres can be controlled via the control cabinet.
The controller or, in case of power failure, the starter batteries
power the motors of the louvres. The louvres are opened
automatically with the indication "PUMP RUNNING" and closed
when the engine is stopped. When the louvres are open, indicator
light "Louvres open" is on. If the automatic function fails, the
louvres can be opened manually by pressing [Start ventilator] and
closed manually by pressing [Stop ventilator].
Room ventilator control
A room ventilator can be connected to the controller to improve
the fresh-air supply and heat removal. It is supplied by the
controller or, in case of power failure, by the starter batteries.
The ventilator starts with the indication "PUMP RUNNING" and
stops when the engine stops. When the room ventilator is
running, indicator light "Ventilator on" is on. If the automatic
function fails, the ventilator can be started manually by
pressing [Start ventilator] and closed manually by pressing
[Stop ventilator].
