• If you can prepare a variable DC power supply (output
voltage range: 10V -
20V), check the IC regulator as
follows.
CheckingthelC Regulator
1. Connect the discrete IC regulator with a variable DC
power supply, voltmeter, lamp, etc., as shown in the
Figure.

2. Set the variable DC power supply at 12V.
3. Turn on "SW
1 ".
Check that
"Ll"
(used in place of the
charge lamp) is lit up brightly and that "L2" (used in
place of the rotor coil) is also lit up.
4. Then, with "SW
I"
turned on, turn on "SW
2 ".
Check that "LI" is turned off, but that "L2" remains lit.
5. With both "SW
1"
and "SW
2"
turned on, step up the
voltage of the variable DC power supply gradually from
12V and check that lamp "L2" turns off when the voltage
reaches the level of 14.5 ± O.3V at 25°C (77°F) while
lamp" LI " remains off.
• IMPORTANT:
• Do not mistake terminal "IG" for terminal
"L"
or you
may destroy the IC regulator.
• If terminals "IG" and "L" of the IC regulator touches
each other, the regulator may be damaged. Use the
specified connectors for wiring.
• The fin does not serve as terminal "E". For connection of
terminal "E" refer to the note in the figure above.

When the items above have been checked, disconnect the
wiring and check the diode between terminals
"8"
and
"F" as shown in the figure. Then use the XKn range on
the tester to perform a conduction test between terminals
"8" and "F". Take the measurement by changing the
polarity between terminals "8" and 'IF". The regulator
is normal if there is conduction in one direction and no
conduction in the opposite direction.
