Rectifier
1. For details of the rectifier circuit, refer to the figure left.
Check the condution of the rectifier using the kD range
on a circuit tester.
2. The rectifier is normal if the diode in the rectifier conducts
in one direction and does not conduct in the reverse
direction.
• IMPORTANT:
• Resistance in the forward direction cannot be used to
determine whether the rectifier is normal or not. This is
because, as an inherent property of diodes, currents
flowing in the forward direction vary substantially de ­
pending on the supply voltage, hence readings given on
the tester vary according to the tester and the resistance
range selected. The rectifier is therefore judged normal
when there is a great difference in the resistance the
forward and reverse directions.
• Do not use a 500V megger to check the rectifier, as it
will cause the rectifier to breakdown.
