Valve Spring Free Length and Tension
1_ Measure the free length of the spring with vernier calipers.
2. Place the spring on a spring compression tester and
compress to the specified length, and get the tension.
3. If the measurement is less than the allowable limit, replace
the valve spring.

Valve Spring Squareness
1. Place the spring on the surface plate and a square at its
side.
2. Measure the maximum distance A (See figure), rotating
spring.

Rocker Arm Bush and Shaft Clearance
1.
Measure the rocker arm bushing I. D. with an inside m icro ­
meter.
2. Measure the rocker arm shaft O.D. with an outside micro­
meter.
3. If the clearance exceeds the allowable limit, replace the
bushing.
4. If the clearance still exceeds the allowable limit after
replacing the bushing, replace the rocker arm shaft.
