Brush Spring
1. Pull the brush in the brush holder with a spring scale.
2. Meassure the brush spring tension required to raise the
spring from contact position with the commutator.
3. I f the tension is less than the allowable limit, replace the
spring.

Brush Holder
1. Check the continuity across the insulated brush holder
and the brush holder support.
2. If continuous, replace the brush holder assembly.
Overrunning Clutch
1. Check the pinion and if worn or damaged, replace the
clutch assembly.
2. Check that the pinion turns freely and smoothly in the
overrunning direction and does not slip in the cranking
direction.
3. If the pinion slips or does not turn in both directions,
replace the overruning clutch assembly .
• NOTE:
• Do not wash off the grease in the overrunning clutch with
the chemicals or oils.
