The mounting height is very important: please make sure that the lowest part of the navi-
gation transmitter is no lower than the rail height or any object higher than the rail height, like
for example, the FLEISCHMANN switch-contact rail. On the other hand, the navigation
transmitter should not be further than 12 mm above the rail height. Please also make sure
that the navigation transmitter can send out to all sides, in other words, the underlying
wagon parts cannot contribute to making a „shadow".
The mounting location is also important: Basically, you should mount the navigation trans-
mitter on the under side of the loco or coach so that it lies on the centre line of the vehicle,
in other words, transmitting towards the centre of the track. Do not forget though, that on
longer coaches and wagons, the coach overhangs to the side of the track when going
around the curves, so that it is no longer transmitting to the track centre! In which case, you
should mount the navigation transmitter as close as possible to the bogie.
Always bear in mind, that the navigation transmitter mounted under the vehicle is just like a
torch, which must always „shine" on the sensors laying in-between the rails, so that the
system will operate!
Connect up the wires of the navigation transmitter with the current pick-up of your loco: the
red wire connects to the right hand pick-up (isolated) of your loco, and the black wire goes
to the left hand pick-up (not isolated).
Advice
The wire for the right hand pick-up for TWIN/DCC-decoders is red, but is blue for FMZ-
decoders. The wire for the left hand pick-up (= common side) is always black.
Installation of the Navigation Receiver
To go with the navigation receiver there are two tiny sensors with grey and white wires and
two plastic clips (sensor mountings). The two sensors must be built into the track using these
mounting clips. Select a suitable location where you would like the switching function to be
activated (further information on this subject can be found in the following chapter).
To help with the installation in the track, you will find a hole-drilling guide in with the naviga-
tion receiver to use to help you. Using a 4.5mm drill, and with the aid of the guide, bore two
holes in the centre of the track (so that the holes are cleanly drilled, you could firstly pre-drill
guide holes using a smaller drill). As shown in the following diagram, insert the sensors into
the plastic clips, feed the wires of the sensors from above, down through the holes in the
track, and then finally press the plastic clips with the sensors into the holes.
Please make sure that there is no obstruction under the location, like a frame support, which
will cause a problem for the holes to be drilled through. Also make sure that there are no
wires in the way under the baseboard that could be damaged by the drill.
Now the cable connections must be made, which of course, takes place under the layout.
