1.
Determine the bolus dose.
Bolus Dose = 0.37 ml x 2000 µg/ml = 740 µg
2.
Determine the bolus duration.
Bolus Duration = 0.37 ml x 500 µg/ml = 9 hours 15 minutes
3.
Enter the bolus dose (740 µg), the duration (9 hours 15 minutes), and
the Simple Continuous rate/day (480 µg).
4.
Perform telemetry to update the pump. The Bolus will begin
immediately following telemetry. When the Bolus is finished, the
pump begins dispensing the Simple Continuous prescription.
5.
Verify the new prescription on the pump Status After
Update Screen.

Changing from Higher to Lower Concentration

CAUTION:
There is a residual volume in the reservoir that cannot be
removed by emptying the pump. Therefore, to prevent drug
overdose when changing from a higher to lower concentration
or when changing solutions, a reservoir rinse must be
performed. If the reservoir is not rinsed, the actual
concentration is greater than intended and can result in a
clinically significant or fatal drug overdose. Refer to Appendix
B: Performing a Reservoir Rinse.
CAUTION:
This change in concentration requires use of a bridge bolus
(Bolus) to prevent a drug overdose.
NOTE:
Refer to Determining the Pump Tubing Volume and
Calculating the Catheter Volume on previous pages for
instructions on determining the total pump tubing and
catheter volumes. This calculation will be needed for Steps 1
and 2 on the next page.
