Determining the Sum of the Pump Tubing and Catheter Volumes
Add the pump tubing and catheter volumes together. This value will be used in
the Postoperative Priming Bolus calculation. See the example that follows.

Total Volume (ml) = 0.11 ml + 0.26 ml = 0.37 ml
Determining the Bolus Dose
To determine the bolus amount, multiply the total volume (pump tubing and
catheter volume) by the drug concentration.
Bolus Dose (mg) = Total Volume (ml) x Drug Concentration (mg/ml)

Programming the Bolus Dose
Program the amount calculated above using the Changes Screen and the Bolus
(Single Bolus) Mode. Refer to the Software and Programmer Technical Manual for
detailed programming instructions. Basic programming steps include:
1. On the Changes Screen, verify that the drug concentration and prescription
are accurate.
2. Program the bolus and duration. Depending on the calibration constant,
some pumps may not accept a single bolus larger than 0.52 ml. In these
cases, program two boluses in succession.
3. Perform telemetry to update the pump.
4. Verify prescription on the Pump Status After Update Screen.
CAUTION: Performing telemetry to the pump while a bolus is in progress
will terminate and cancel the bolus.
