Each pump has been placed in a clear, plastic tray, which is sealed with a
peel-open lid and then sterilized before shipment. If the tray seal is broken,
or if the pump has been exposed to body fluids, do not resterilize the pump.
Contact your local Medtronic representative.
3.
Prewarm the pump to 35 °C - 40 °C (95 °F - 104 °F) while the pump is in the
sterile package; use a warming oven or blanket.
CAUTION:
DO NOT exceed a temperature of 40 °C (104 °F); temperatures
in excess of 40 °C (104 °F) may result in damage to the pump.
4.
Note the model number, calibration constant, reservoir size, and presence of
side catheter access port (if present). The calibration constant and the
reservoir size for the pump are printed on the sterile package. Record this
information in the patient's record. Do not remove the pump from its sterile
package.
5.
Attach a "FOR YOUR FILES" label (enclosed in package) to patient's record.
This label displays the pump model and reservoir size, calibration constant
and serial number of the pump.
6.
Using the programmer, perform telemetry, check current pump status and
compare to information in Table 4. Refer to the programmer technical
manual for instructions.
NOTE:
If the pump model number, reservoir volume, or calibration
constant displayed on the screen does not match the
information printed on the pump package or "For Your Files"
label, contact your local Medtronic representative.
7.
Enter the following parameters on the Changes Screen: Identification
(patient's initials), Reservoir Volume (6 ml or 10 ml), Low Reservoir Alarm
(ENABLED), Alarm Volume (2 ml), Drug, Concentration and Dosing Units,
Low Battery Alarm (ENABLED), and Infusion Mode.
NOTE:
The programmed parameters can be entered after implant
following completion of the Purge Bolus. If this is desired, skip
this step (Step 7) and proceed to Step 8.
NOTE:
For vascular applications only, enter the Simple Continuous
infusion mode. The pump will be filled with Sterile Water for
Injection, USP or saline. A stopped pump could occlude the
catheter.
NOTE:
The Low Battery Alarm may sound until the pump is warmed
to body temperature.
8.
Program a Purge Bolus to remove air from the fluid pathway. Refer to the
Purge Pump Procedure in the programmer's technical manual.
9.
Perform Telemetry - select Update Pump; review Pump Status After Update
to verify data and proceed to Sterile Procedures.
