Pump Alarms

The pump has an audible alarm system that alerts the patient of low battery
power, low reservoir volume, or a pump memory error. Low Battery and Low
Reservoir alarms are single tones. The Pump Memory Error Alarm is a double
tone and is triggered when the microprocessor detects a memory error in the
pump.
Once activated, each alarm occurs at specific intervals (between 4 and 16
seconds) until deactivated by telemetry from the programmer. The Low Battery
and Low Reservoir alarms occur at intervals dependent on the pump flow rate.
A higher flow rate will result in an alarm with shorter intervals than a lower flow
rate. The Pump Memory Error Alarm occurs every 16 seconds.
At or below room temperature, the alarm system may falsely signal a low battery
condition and activate the audible alarm. To prevent the alarm from sounding,
the alarm was programmed to DISABLED before shipment. After the pump has
been warmed 35 °C - 40 °C (95 °F - 104 °F), the Low Battery Alarm must be
programmed to ENABLED. Refer to the programmer's technical manual for
instructions on controlling the alarms. If the alarm sounds after being
programmed, warm the pump 35 °C - 40 °C for an additional 15 minutes. If the
alarm continues to sound after being warmed for 15 minutes, DO NOT implant;
contact your local Medtronic representative.
