CAUTION:
If the drug to be used is a vesicant or has the potential to cause
local tissue damage, it should not be placed in the pump until
after implantation. If the drug is a vesicant, fill the pump with
Sterile Water for Injection, USP, or saline (heparinized, if not
contraindicated) instead of the drug.
CAUTION:
If drug concentration or sterility is questionable, discard and
use new drug.
CAUTION:
Do not allow air into the pump's reservoir through an open
needle. This can result in reservoir contamination or activation
of the reservoir valve.
1.
Assemble 22-gauge Huber-type needle and syringe containing the
MAXIMUM 6 ml (for 10 ml pump models) or 10 ml (for 18 ml pump
models) of the prescribed drug.
CAUTION:
Use low concentration drugs during initial fill at implant.
2.
Insert needle into reservoir septum, and inject at an infusion rate not greater
than 1 ml per 3 seconds (Figure 5).
NOTE:
If you encounter unusual resistance before the maximum 6 ml
or 10 ml is injected or if you are unable to inject fluid, the
pump reservoir valve has been activated.
CAUTION:
Do not attempt to force fluid into the pump reservoir if the
reservoir valve has been activated. Extreme pressure following
activation of the reservoir valve may result in damage to the
pump or procedural delays.
