13 Charging drive batteries for the vehicle

Only use a charger that is designed for the type of rechargeable battery used (e.g. LiPo).
Attention!
Attempting to charge a LiPo drive battery with a NiMH battery charger (or vice versa) may cause a
fire or explosion!
A LiPo drive battery should only be charged with a suitable LiPo charger (and a NiMH rechargeable bat-
tery with a NiMH charger only). So always make sure to use a charger suitable for the battery technology.
For further information, please refer to the operating instructions for your charger and any safety informa-
tion enclosed with the rechargeable batteries.
The vehicle delivery package does not include any drive rechargeable batteries, they must be purchased sepa-
rately. So you can choose between cheap entry-level rechargeable batteries and high-performance professional
rechargeable batteries with high capacity for the vehicle.
Drive rechargeable batteries are usually empty upon delivery and must be charged. Several complete charge and
discharge cycles are required for the drive rechargeable batteries to reach their maximum performance.
When it comes to LiPo rechargeable batteries, partially discharged rechargeable batteries can be recharged with
no trouble. A prior discharge is usually not required.
High-quality drive batteries not only have a higher capacity, which allows you to operate your model vehicle much
longer, they also provide a higher output voltage under load. This gives the motor more power and results in better
acceleration and a higher speed.
We recommend that you purchase a high-quality charger. They normally charge rechargeable batteries quickly. To
use a LiPo drive rechargeable battery for the vehicle, the charger must be equipped with a balancer.
Rechargeable batteries heat up while charging or discharging (i.e. as you operate the vehicle). Wait until the
rechargeable battery has reached room temperature before charging it. The same applies after the rechargeable
battery has finished charging. Allow it to cool down before connecting it to the vehicle.
To charge the two drive batteries, remove them from the vehicle and then disconnect them completely from the
speed controller.

process. Do not use a rechargeable battery in the vehicle until it has cooled down sufficiently after the charging
