Danger of irritating oils and vapors
During testing, test oil vapors may be pro-
duced and test oil may escape. Test oil and
test oil vapors irritate the skin and are harm-
ful to health if breathed in or swallowed.
Safety measures:
¶
The plant operator must ensure that the work area is
properly ventilated.
¶
Collect test oil vapors and mist with suitable suction
devices.
¶
Do not breathe in test oil vapors or mist.
¶
Do not swallow test oil.
¶
In the event of escaping test oil vapors and mist,
wear respiratory protection.
¶
Avoid contact with the eyes and skin. Wear protec-
tive goggles, gloves and overalls.
¶
Clean skin contaminated with oil thoroughly with
water and skin-friendly detergent or soap.
¶
Do not carry oily cloths around in pockets. Remove
oily clothing.
¶
Observe safety data sheets for test oil as per
ISO 4113 (e. g. Zeller&Gmelin Divinol CAF). These
are available from the test oil suppliers.

Danger of sewage contamination
Danger of contamination of sewage by escap-
ing test oil.
Safety measures:
¶
Observe the Water Resources Law and relevant
national water acts and regulations pertaining to
systems for storage, drawing-off and handling wa-
ter-polluting materials.
¶
Use sealed containers, enclosures and suction de-
vices.
¶
If a significant quantity of test oil escapes into sur-
face water, a drainage network or the underground
notify the police or authorities responsible immedi-
ately.

Safe handling
4.1
EPS 118 including accessories
Test oil and test oil mist are flammable or
explosive. For this reason, all sources of ig-
nition such as naked flame, cigarettes, elec-
trical sparks should be kept away from the
EPS 118.
Immediately shut down and secure the
EPS 118 in the event of malfunctioning. Recti-
fy faults immediately.
Always wear safety shoes.
Always wear safety goggles.
¶
Only use the EPS 118 if all the safety systems and
related devices such as emergency stop devices,
extraction systems and guard contact are in position
and functioning properly.
¶
Before switching on the EPS 118, make sure the test
accessories have been set up and connected cor-
rectly.
¶
Before switching on the EPS 118, make sure no-one
can be endangered by start-up of the EPS 118.
¶
Before clamping, check the injector to be tested for
damage. Externally damaged, severely corroded and
electrically defective injectors may not be tested
with the EPS 118.
¶
Prior to testing, make sure the injector under test
has been fitted correctly and that hydraulic and elec-
trical connections have been properly made.
¶
There is a risk of injury from inexpert use and defec-
tive nozzles (e.g. clogged needles) or injectors.
¶
Always comply with the tightening torques indicated
in the EPS 118 operating instructions when perform-
ing test work.
¶
The EPS 118 must be operated using test oil as un-
der ISO°4113. On no account should gasoline or any
other easily flammable medium be used.
