Checking Cam Heights of Intake and Exhaust
1) Measure the height of the cam at its highest point with a
micrometer.
2) If the measurement exceeds the allowable limit, replace
the camshaft.

Checking Gear Backlash
1) Install a lever·type indicator between the gear teeth.
2) Clamp one gear, rotate the other and measure the
backlash.
3) If the backlash exceeds the allowable limit, replace.
