8.10 Measuring system – Work area
Before the work area can be defined, the programming of the scaling parameters
(objects 0x2002, 0x2003, 0x2004 or 0x6001, 0x6002) must have been performed.
If storing could be completed successfully, the current limit values in the objects 6401h
and 6402h are verified. If they are larger than the programmed measuring length, the
limit values are adjusted to the new measuring length:

Now, in another step the desired limit values can be written.
Note that the lower limit value entered by means of the object 0x6401 is arithmetically
less than its associated upper limit value, which is set by the object 0x6402. Both limit
values are checked when the object 0x1010 is performed. A correction takes place as
follows:

8.10.1 Object 6401h: Work area low limit
The object defines the lower limit for the working area. A breach of the range is
signaled via Object 6400h: Area state register Bit 0 "Out of range" and Bit 2 "Range
underflow".

low limit values = Measuring length in steps — 2
If the upper limit value is greater than or equal to the measuring length, it is
corrected to the value measuring length — 1
If the lower limit value is greater than or equal to the measuring length, it is
corrected to the value measuring length — 2
The value must be within the range of 0 to measuring length in increments –1
The value must be at least one step smaller than the defined value for the
upper limit
