5 Cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization

Possible danger to life of the patient in case of non-sterile handling!
Products supplied in non-sterile condition must be cleaned, disinfected and sterilized before the first and
before any further use.
• In case of patients with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), suspected CJD or possible CJD variants,
processing of the products must be carried out according to the applicable national regulations.
• The operator/processor is responsible for cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing the products used. It is
essential that national regulations, including restrictions, be observed.
The processing procedure must be validated prior to use of the medical device. The operator/processor is
responsible for this.
The L1 rib plates and the L1 rib screws are delivered sterile. The label is marked with the corresponding
symbol. They should not be removed from the packaging until immediately before use. Always check the
use by date and that the packaging is not damaged before use. Sterile products with opened or damaged
sterile packaging or sterile products removed from packaging with an expired use-by date must be
considered non-sterile and must not be used.
The majority of the L1 rib instruments are not delivered sterile. Products which are not delivered sterile
must be removed from their packaging before use and subjected to a suitable cleaning, disinfecting and
sterilizing procedure as described below.
