In addition to standard instruments such as holding forceps, screwdrivers etc., the use of which is self-
explanatory, special instruments are available, the use of which is explained below:
Depth gauge
One of the following depth gauges is available to ensure that the rib is sufficiently thick (at least 7 mm).
Implanting the screws is not recommended if the bone is thinner than 7 mm.

Rib has adequate thickness.
Caution: only use with a screw guide.

The Fi xed Depth Gauge provides a s imple method of
mea suring ri b minimum thickness.
If the Fi xed Depth Gauge fits over the ri b, use the Adjustable
Ga uge to determine i f s crew placement is possible. If the Fixed
Depth Gauge does not fit over the ri b, then the ri b thickness is
grea ter than 7 mm. This thickness is a dequate for placement
of s crews with or wi thout the Screw Guide controlling the
a ngle of i nsertion.
