Preparation before Cleaning for Instruments

The pre-treatment procedure has been validated according to the following sequence:
1. Remove instruments still inserted from instrument storage. The storage must be fully empty.
2. Remove screw and plate modules from the basket.
3. Do not clean and disinfect implants together with contaminated instruments.
4. Open or dismantle products as far as possible.
5. Rinse products under running water for at least 1 min (temperature < 35 °C/95 °F).
6. Place dismantled or opened instruments in a sufficiently large pre-cleaning bath
that has not yet been activated) for the specified exposure time, so that the products are completely
covered. Ensure that the products do not touch each other. Support pre-cleaning by completely
brushing off all surfaces (at the beginning of the exposure time).
Move movable parts back and forth at least three times during pre-cleaning.
Flush all product lumens at least three times at the beginning or end of the exposure time (tools and
minimum volume depend on the cavity to be flushed).
7. If required, activate the ultrasound for a repeated minimum exposure time (but not less than 5 min).
8. Then remove instruments from the pre-cleaning bath and rinse thoroughly with water at least three
times (for at least 1 min).
Move movable parts back and forth at least three times during rinsing.
9. Rinse all lumina of the instruments at least three times (aids and minimum volumes depend on the
cavity to be rinsed).
If, for exa mple, cl eaning agents and disinfectants are used for this purpose for reasons of occupational health a nd s afety, they
1
s hould be aldehyde-free (otherwise fixation of blood contamination) a nd have a tested effectiveness (e.g. VAH/DGHM or
FDA/EPA a pproval/clearance/registration or CE ma rking). The cleaning a gent and disinfectant should be s uitable for disinfecting the
products. The disinfectant used i n the pre-treatment is for personal protection only. It ca nnot replace the disinfection s tep to be
ca rri ed out after cleaning!
