Checking the coolant concentration

Do not open the radiator filler cap when the engine is hot.
In order to prevent the formation of lime as well as freeze and corrosion damages and
to increase the ebullition temperature, the cooling system must be filled with a mixture
of water and antifreeze with corrosion protection additives all year long.
– If the antifreeze is too low, drain
fluid and fill the equalizing tank
(68) antifreeze to reach the
correct mixing ratio.

The water/antifreeze ratio and the
antifreeze level this achieves can be found in the antifreeze specifications.

Fill the coolant system as follows

Allow the engine to cool before adding coolant fluid during maintenance.
Open the seal slowly; dangerously hot coolant may escape if the cooling
system is still under pressure. Do not add too much coolant to the cooling
system. The seal includes a safety valve, which opens and allows coolant to
escape if the level is too high.
IMPORTANT If the coolant is filled during maintenance, it must meet the same
requirements as the original coolant. See "Coolant fluid--specifications" in
Section 5 of the engine manual. Air will enter the cooling system if the coolant
is filled too quickly or the machine is not positioned horizontally when filling.
Running the engine with air in the cooling system will cause high operating
temperatures and can damage the engine.
