Maintenance of lift chains

IMPORTANT It is important to always keep all lift chains and pivots clean and well
lubricated. Lubricate the chain only if it is not loaded. The chain must be
carefully lubricated where it goes over the deflection pulley. Lift chains are
safety elements.
Chains should not show any obvious dirt. Clean them only with paraffin
derivatives, e.g. petroleum or diesel fuels. Chains must never be cleaned with
high-pressure steam cleaners, cleaner solvents or chemical cleaners.
11.3

Inspecting the lift chains

Impermissible wear and external damage:
According to official regulations, a chain is worn when it has lengthened by 3% in the
area where it runs over the deflection pulley. We recommend replacing the chain at
2% for safety reasons.
The chain should be replaced immediately in the event of any external damage,
because such damage eventually causes permanent breaks.
IMPORTANT If the industrial truck is equipped with two lift chains, both chains must always
be replaced. This is the only way to ensure that the load is distributed evenly
on both chains. When chains are replaced, the connection bolts between the
chain anchor and the chain must also be replaced. Use only new original
parts.

12.1

Preparing the vehicle for maintenance and servicing

All necessary safety measures must be taken to prevent accidents during
maintenance and servicing. The following conditions must be established:
– Switch off and secure the
vehicle (see Chapter E, section
3.7).
– Remove the key from the
ignition/starter switch (2) to
prevent the truck from starting
up unintentionally.
– Unlock the master switch (1).
– For work under raised fork or
industrial truck, each must be
secured
