Safety regulations for use of diesel fuel and liquified petroleum gas

The industrial truck must be parked and secured (see chapter E: Switching off and
securing the vehicle) before filling the tank with diesel fuel or exchanging gas
cylinders.
Fire prevention: Smoking, open flames and other sources of combustion are
prohibited in the vicinity of the tank when handling fuel and liquified petroleum gas.
Signs indicating danger zones must be posted and clearly visible. Storage of highly
combustible materials is prohibited in such areas. Operational fire extinguishers must
always be available nearby during fueling.

To prevent liquified petroleum gas from burning, use only carbon dioxide dry
chemical extinguishers or carbon dioxide gas extinguishers.
Storage and transport: The system used for storing and transporting diesel fuel and
liquified petroleum gas must meet the legal requirements. If no fuel pump is available,
the fuel must be transported and stored in a clean container that meets specifications.
The contents must be clearly marked on the container. Defective gas cylinders must
be taken outside immediately and stored in a well-ventilated location. The supplier
must also be notified. Leaking diesel fuel must be cleaned up using a binding agent
and disposed of in accordance with the applicable environmental safety regulations.
Employees performing fueling and exchanging gas cylinders: Employees
handling liquified petroleum gas must have adequate knowledge of its properties to
ensure safety in the workplace.
Filling liquified petroleum gas cylinders: The gas cylinders remain connected to
the industrial truck and are filled at gas pumps. The regulations specified by the filling
station and the cylinder manufacturer must be observed during fueling, as well as all
legal and local applicable regulations.
