Negotiating slopes and dips: Driving over sloping ground is only permitted if there
are recognized tracks, if they are clean and non-slip and if the specifications for the
truck allow it to travel safely over sloping ground. The load must be carried facing
uphill! Turning around, traveling at an acute angle and parking the vehicle on sloping
ground are prohibited. Downslopes must only be negotiated at low speed, with the
driver prepared to brake at any moment.
Using elevators and driving on loading platforms: Elevators and loading
platforms should be used only if they have sufficient load capacity, are suitable for
being driven onto and if they have been approved by the owner of the industrial truck
for use by the industrial truck. The driver of the industrial truck must ensure that these
conditions are met before driving the truck onto the elevator or loading platform. The
industrial truck must be driven into the elevator with the load unit in front and assume
a position that excludes contact with the bay walls.
Persons who would like to use the elevator together with the industrial truck may enter
the elevator only after the industrial truck is in its final position and must exit the
elevator before the truck.
Pulling trailers or towing vehicles: The pulling of trailers or other vehicles is only
permissible on an occasional basis and on paved, horizontal travel ways having a
maximum deviation of +/-1% from horizontal and a maximum speed of 3.1 mph / 5
km/h. Continuous trailer operation is prohibited.
While using the machine for towing, it is not permissible to carry loads on the forks.
The maximum trailer load specified for the industrial truck for braked and/or unbraked
trailers must not be exceeded. The specified trailer load is only valid when used with
the auxiliary coupling on the industrial truck counterweight. Also heed the instructions
of the trailer hitch manufacturer if the original trailer hitch is to be replaced with one
of a different make.
After hitching the trailer, the driver must ensure before driving that the trailer hitch is
secure enough to prevent unintentional release of the trailer. Industrial trucks used
for towing must be operated in such a manner that safe travel and deceleration of the
towing train is guaranteed in the context of all driving maneuvers.

Supervising and securing the industrial truck

A powered industrial truck is regarded as being supervised if the operator is within a
radius of 8 m (25 ft), maximum, and keeps the truck in view.
A powered industrial truck is regarded as being unsupervised if the operator is
outside a radius of 8 m (25 ft) and keeps the truck in view, or if the operator leaves
the vehicle and no longer has it in view.
Before leaving the driver's seat or operating position:
– Do not park the truck on a slope;
– Bring the truck to a complete stop;
– Move the direction of travel controls to neutral;
– Engage the parking brake;
– Lower the load carrier completely unless it is carrying a raised platform.
The following steps must be completed before the industrial truck can be left
unsupervised.
– Never park the vehicle on an incline;
– Turn off the engine and/or the controls;
– Immobilize the wheels, or activate the ground or wheel lock(s);
– Lower the load-handling equipment completely;
You must not block access to fire escape routes, staircases or fire systems.
