Wire ropes: Wire ropes (if fitted) must be inspected at regular intervals. All ropes
showing signs of a clear reduction in diameter, excessive wear on the outer wires,
torn wires, damage, or severe corrosion must be replaced.
Hydraulic hose lines: The hose lines must be replaced after six years of use.
Safety regulations for maintenance and inspection: The lifting of an industrial
truck for repairs or inspection must be carried out in a reliable, safe and stable
manner. The removal of components – such as the counterweights or supporting
struts – shifts the center of gravity and can adversely affect the stability of the truck.
Before starting repairs and inspection:
– Raise the drive wheels until they are no longer in contact with the ground and
disconnect the battery. Immobilize the truck with wheel chocks or other devices;
– Immobilize the load-handling equipment, the inner mast(s) or frame before starting
work on these components;
– Disconnect the battery before starting work on the electrical system;
– Before parts are removed from the diesel engine fuel system of an industrial truck
with a high-level fuel tank filling system, appropriate measures must be taken to
prevent unintentional fuel spills.
– Before removing parts from the liquefied petroleum gas system of an industrial
truck, shut the valve on the liquefied petroleum gas tank and let the engine run until
the fuel in the system is fully consumed and the engine turns off. Shut the valve on
the liquefied petroleum gas tank and allow the fuel to slowly run in a safe area when
the engine is not running.
Operation of the truck to test its performance must be carried out in a designated
area, maintaining a safe distance.
1. Before starting up the industrial truck, the operator must read "Starting the
vehicle" in Chapter E.
2. The following measures must be taken before the vehicle can be left
unsupervised (see "Switching off and securing the vehicle" in Chapter E):
– Bring the truck to a complete stop;
– Lower the load-handling equipment completely;
– Move the direction of travel controls to neutral;
– Engage the parking brake;
– Turn off the engine and/or the power supply;
– Interrupt the electrical control circuit or the ignition circuit;
– Block the wheels if you have to park the industrial truck on a slope;
– Check that there is no fire hazard and ensure that there is fire-fighting
equipment available in the working area. The use of an open flame to check the
fluid levels or to find possible fluid spillages, especially of fuels and battery acid,
is prohibited. Open fuel tubs or flammable cleaners may not be used to clean
components.
Provide adequate ventilation in the working area and keep the workshop clean and
dry.
Handle liquefied petroleum gas cylinders with extreme caution. Physical damage
such as grooves, scratches and gouges can significantly weaken the fuel tank and
can be dangerous when the tank is in use.
