J. LED Test Button (Rear Panel)
When you press this button, all numeric LED's illu mi nate as a self-
diagnostic test. Any numeric LED that does not illu mi nate signals a problem
requiring atten tion.
Footswitch Controls (Figure 3)
K. Cutting Output Pedal
When you depress this pedal, cutting power is deliv ered to the forceps.
NOTE: Never change power setting while using the cut or coag control.
L. Coag u la tion Output Pedal
Coag u la tion power is deliv ered to the forceps when you depress this pedal.
Indi ca tors (Figure 4)
M. Power Output LED
This green LED illu mi nates when ever power of any kind, for either cutting or
coag u la tion, is deliv ered to the forceps.
N–P. Power Display Windows
These three sets of windows show the power selec tions for high power
cutting (Item N), micro cutting (Item O), and coag u la tion (Item P). The power
selec tions are shown in Malis Units. When the gen er ator is initially turned on,
the setting "0" appears in both the micro cut ting and coag u la tion windows.
The high power cutting window will be blank. The fol lowing power set tings
are avail able for each oper ating mode.

Q. High Power Cutting LED
This yellow LED illu mi nates when ever cutting power in the high range
(60 to 110 Malis units, or 20 to 120 watts) is deliv ered to the forceps.
R. Micro cut ting Power LED
This yellow LED illu mi nates when cutting power in the micro range
(8 to 50 Malis units, or 0.7 to 17 watts) is deliv ered to the forceps.
S. Coag u la tion Power Light
This blue light illu mi nates when ever coag u la tion power is deliv ered to
the forceps.

T. Irri ga tion Mode LED
Irrigation is enabled when this green light is on and the MALIS MODULE 1000
Irrigation System is properly connected.
NOTE: To avoid unin ten tional irri ga tion, be sure the power on the irri gator is
switched off when ever the CMC-III Gen er ator is switched off.
U. Mute LED
This green LED illu mi nates when you disable the voice synthe sizer by using
the voice mute button (Item I in Figure 2).
V. Alert LED
This red LED illu mi nates when ever the output power varies more than ±20%
from its nominal value. Once illu mi nated, this LED remains lit until the power
(mains) switch is cycled off, then on. If this LED turns on again, after cycling
the power switch, return the unit for service.
W. Output Power Over-Current Pro tec tion LED
This red LED illu mi nates when ever the over-current circuit is active. The
over-current circuit decreases or shuts off the output power if the output
current becomes dan ger ously high. The circuit pro tects the forceps tips from
arcing and pro tects the patient from pos sible burns due to exces sive current.
X. Power Setting Display Area
The three power display windows are in this area, along with power output
mode LEDs.
Tone Indi ca tors (not shown)
The CMC-III Gen er ator pro duces a tone when ever power is deliv ered to the
forceps. Two dif ferent tones dif fer en tiate between coag u la tion and cutting.
A low fre quency major chord indi cates coag u la tion. A higher fre quency minor
chord indicates cutting. The volume of the tone indi cator can be con trolled
with the tone volume control (Item D in Figure 1).

Voice Indi cator (not shown) (English only)
The voice indi cator enables checking or adjust ment of the power setting
20.0
and mode of oper a tion without looking at the set tings. As the power setting
40.0
changes, the voice indi cator announces each new setting. When using
the cut switch on the footswitch the voice announces either "micro cut" or
60.0
"cutting". It also announces the power setting before the gen er ator delivers
80.0
either cutting or coag u lating power to the forceps. The voice volume control
(Item E in Figure 1) changes the volume of the voice.
100.0
In addi tion, the voice indi cator func tions as part of the self-diagnostic feature
120.0
for the fol lowing five con di tions.

Y. Iso lated Bipolar Output Jacks
These jacks accept the banana-type plugs of the dis pos able bipolar cord.
Z. Foot switch Recep tacle
Accepts the con nector of the foot switch.
AA. Irri gator Recep tacle
The MALIS MODULE 1000 Interconnecting Cable (catalog no. 80-9115)
can be plugged into the generator at this receptacle to allow the use of the
MALIS MODULE 1000 Irrigation System (catalog no. 80-9100) along with the
CMC-III Generator. Refer to the set up instruc tions in the manual sup plied
with the con necting cable for more infor ma tion.
NOTE: To avoid unin ten tional irri ga tion, be sure the power on the irri ga tion
module is switched to the off posi tion when ever the power switch on the
CMC-III Gen er ator is in the off posi tion.
BB. Power Recep tacle
This recep tacle accepts the three-prong power cord plug and also con tains
the external fuse. (See Tech nical Spec ifi ca tions.)
CC. Fuse Holder
Two fuse holders are located behind the removable panel above the power
entry connector. See Technical Specifications for replacement fuses.
