PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG MODULE

Characteristics

The passenger airbag module is a passive safety device that protects the front passenger in the event
of frontal impact by means of a bag that interposes itself between the occupant and the car's
dashboard.

Composition

The module comprises:
a plastic containment mount;

a paper bag protection that opens along predefined tear marks in the event of activation to

allow the bag, with a capacity of approximately 90 litres, to emerge;
Made of nylon, a fabric that minimises skin abrasions in the event of contact and folded so that

it does not inflate directly towards the occupant;
a pyrotechnic gas generator;

mounting brackets on the "bag guide" bracket.


Operation

The passenger airbag is activated in exactly the same way as the driver side airbag.
Bag deployment opens the flap built into the dashboard along predefined cut lines. When fully inflated,
the bag is in an optimum position to protect the occupant.
The harnesses inside the airbags unfold in such a way as to allow inflation to maximum specified
dimensions to prevent collateral injuries to passengers. Deflation is immediate, thanks to the presence
of vent holes in the end of the bag.

Passenger side airbag disablement

The user can deactivate the passenger bag in order to install a child seat without any risk. When fitted
in the front, it should be installed facing away from the direction of travel.
This function is activated as follows by means of the setup menu on the instrument panel:
with car stationary, press the SET button to access the setup menu;

using the + or – buttons, select the "BAG PASS" function and press the SET button again;

the confirmation request message ("CONF") will appear on the display;

use the + or – buttons to select "YES" (to confirm activation/deactivation) or "no" (to abandon

activation/deactivation);
press the "SET" button again briefly; a message confirming the selection is displayed and you

return to the menu screen. Hold down the button to return to the standard screen without
storing.
When the function is on, the instrument panel warning light stays on.
