4.3.1
Functional principle of identification systems
The BIS U-4A7 read/write head belongs to the category of
non-contact systems with read/write function. which not
only allows it to detect information programmed
permanently in the data carrier, but also to collect and
pass on current information. The energy supply of the data
carrier is provided by the read/write head by means of a
carrier signal.
Main components of the identification system BIS U
include:
–
Read/write head
–
Data carrier
–
IO-Link master
Data transmission to the controlling system is carried out
by means of an IO-Link master.

Schematic representation of an identification system
The read/write head manages the data transfer between
the read/write head and the data carrier, serves as a buffer
and transmits the data to the controlling system. A decisive
factor for the smooth exchange of data between the read/
write head and the data carrier is the maintenance of a
sufficient dwell time of the data carrier within the active
read/write range of the read/write head.
The data is transmitted via IO-Link protocol to the IO-Link
master, which forwards it to the controlling system.
Controlling systems may be the following:
–
a control computer (e.g. industrial PC)
–
a PLC
The main areas of application are:
–
In the production and control of material flow (e.g. in
model-specific processes, workpiece transport in
conveying systems, for acquiring safety-related data)
–
In tool coding and monitoring
–
In organization of tools and equipment
–
In warehousing for monitoring material movements
–
In transporting and conveyor technology
–
In waste disposal for quantity-based fee assessment
–
Control of assembly lines
–
Intralogistics applications (e.g. eKanban)

4.3.2
Data security
In order to ensure data integrity, the data transfer between
the data carrier and processor unit can be monitored using
a CRC-16 data check.

Special features of UHF data carriers
The memory organization of UHF data carriers provides for
different memory areas (memory banks) depending on the
design.
–
Reserved
Read/write
–
EPC
head
–
TID
–
USER
The allocation or the size of the respective
memory banks can be taken from the data
sheet of the data carrier used.
The EPC and USER memory areas (if available) are
available to be edited freely.
The TID memory bank is read-only. The reserved memory
area is intended for passwords. An access password and
a kill password can be stored in it (see Lock and Kill
commands).
The access password allows reading or writing to memory
areas whose protection status requires a password.
The security status for the reserved memory bank can be
set as follows:
Reserved
