The object directory

8 The object directory
The object directory contains all parameters necessary for the communication, control
and drive behavior of encoTRive. It thus represents the interface between application
and encoTRive.
The higher-level control accesses the encoTRive object directory via the relevant IO
controller using PROFINET as transmission medium.

8.1 Types of parameter

According to PROFIDrive encoTRive differentiates between simple parameter values
(simple variables) and those, which are made up of several similar types of
information (array variables). An array consists of a number n of elements of the
same data type. In the case of arrays, the individual elements can be accessed by
means of the subindex.

8.2 Data types

encoTRive defines different data types according to PROFIDrive. This enables the
transmission of information with sufficiently accurate content, on the one hand. On the
other hand it prevents superfluous and unused information from unnecessarily
burdening communication.
Integer data types of different lengths are defined, which can be used with or without
preceding sign. In the case of integer data types with sign, the most significant bit
indicates whether the number is positive or negative.
Data types which already have targeted formatting in relation to the parameter content
are also defined. E.g. data type N2 is defined for parameter P201 "Speed". This
allows the percentage speed to be directly preset via a scaling value.
