Engine break-in
There is never a more i m p o r t a n t period, in the
life of y o u r m o t o r c y c l e , than the period
between zero and 1,000 k m (600 m i ) . For
this reason we ask that y o u carefully read the
f o l l o w i n g material. Because the engine is
brand new, y o u must not put an excessive
load on it f o r the first several hours o f runn-
ing. Düring the first 1,000 k m (600 mi) the
various parts in the engine wear and polish
themselves t o t h e correct operating clearances.
Düring this period prolonged f ü l l t h r o t t l e
Operation, or any c o n d i t i o n w h i c h might
result in excessive heat o f cylinder, must be
avoided. However, momentary füll t h r o t t l e
Operation, under load (2 ~ 3 seconds maxi-
m u m ) , does n o t harm the engine. Each füll
t h r o t t l e acceleration sequence should be
f o l l o w e d w i t h a substantial rest period f o r the
engine b y cruising at lower speed so the en-
gine can rid itself o f the temporary build up
of heat.
