6.5.2 Battery charger

WARNING
Explosion hazard due to sparks. Always switch off the
battery charger and remove the mains plug before discon-
necting the battery.
NOTICE
Unauthorised battery replacement. The battery may only
be replaced by a specialist dealer. The characteristic
curve of the battery charger set at the factory corresponds
to the battery provided and must not be changed. Setting
the characteristic curve incorrectly can result in perma-
nent damage to the battery.
NOTICE
Damage of or due to the charger. Please note the follow-
ing when using the charger:
„ Only use a battery charger supplied by Ottobock
which has been tested and approved for the respec-
tive batteries by Ottobock (observe information on the
charger). Failure to do so can result in a battery explo-
sion and possible impairment of health due to contact
with battery acid.

„ The information on the nameplate of the charger must
match the country-specific voltage of the respective
power supply network.
„ Only use the battery charger within the specified ranges
of temperature and humidity.
„ Place the rubber feet of the battery charger on a level
surface.
„ When the battery charger is in use, it must be protected
from direct sunlight.
„ Keep the charger from overheating. The vent openings
on the back of the charger must not be covered.
„ Turn off the control unit during the charging process so
that the entire charging current flows to the battery.
„ Avoid dust and dirt. Only clean with a dry cloth.
The battery charger is designed for maintenance-free and
low-maintenance batteries. The charger can operate along
two characteristic curves to charge the respective batteries.
The power wheelchair is delivered with the appropriate
characteristic curve, set in accordance with the kind of bat-
tery the wheelchair is equipped with. If the battery charger is
to be used with another power wheelchair or if new batter-
ies are installed, the setting has to be checked.
