Magnetic Head Replacement
As the magnetic film strip passes over the tape head in the Cintel Audio and KeyKode Reader, it
slowly polishes the surface, wearing the head gap and reducing audio quality. We recommend
replacing the magnetic head every 2 to 3 years, depending on use.
NOTE
There are two versions of the Cintel Scanner Magnetic Head:
Magnetic Head Version 1
This version of the magnetic head is no longer available and is installed in older Audio
and KeyKode Readers with a serial number prior to 6943522.
Magnetic Head Version 2
This is the current version of the magnetic head installed in Audio and KeyKode
Readers with the serial number 6943522 and onwards.
If you have a version 2 magnetic head installed in your Audio and KeyKode Reader, you
can follow the procedure in this section of the manual to replace your magnetic head.
If you have a version 1 magnetic head installed, you will need to upgrade to a version
2 model. This upgrade process is more complex and requires extra parts and greater
technical skill to perform. For more information refer the 'Cintel Audio and KeyKode
Reader V2 Upgrade Procedure' document. Alternatively, our sales office can perform
the upgrade. To download the upgrade procedure document or to contact support go
to www.blackmagicdesign.com/support. Once performed the service procedure is the
same as the version 2 magnetic head.
