Problem
Too much/too little
espresso is given off.
When placing two cups
under the spouts of the
portafilter, the cups are
not filled evenly.
The appliance is making
pulsing, whistling, and
pumping noises during
operation.
The machine is making an
unusually loud pumping
noise
and/or
the pump is running for
too long.

Possible Reasons
The extraction volume
programmed for the used
espresso button is set too
high.
The grind size requires
adjustment.
The amount of coffee
powder requires adjust-
ment.
The extraction volume
programmed for the used
espresso button requires
adjustment.
The cups are not positi-
oned correctly.
The filter basket has been
wet, before filling in the
coffee powder.
The appliance is not level. Ensure that the surface of your workplace is level.
One spout of the portafil-
ter is clogged.
This may be normal and
no reason for concern.
Not enough water in the
water tank.
The Easy Solution
Adapt the extraction volume accordingly (see: 'Changing
the Default Settings / Adjusting the Extraction Volume').
Adapt the grind size accordingly. If too little espresso is
given off, adjust the grind size somewhat coarser. Other-
wise, set the grind size finer (see: 'Changing the Default
Settings / Setting Up the Grinder').
Adjust the coffee dosage: use more (too much espresso)
or less (too little espresso) coffee powder. If required, set
up the grinder accordingly (see: 'Changing the Default
Settings / Setting Up the Grinder').
Adapt the extraction volume accordingly (see: 'Changing
the Default Values / Adjusting the Extraction Volume').
Ensure that each cup is placed correctly below one of the
spouts. Otherwise, the espresso may run down at the
exterior of the cups.
Always dry the filter basket thoroughly, before filling it.
Otherwise, the water may run through at the rim of the
filter basket.
Clean the portafilter (see: 'Care and Cleaning / Thorough
Cleaning of the Portafilter and Filter Basket').
No action required.
Immediately cancel the used function. Fill the
water tank. The filling level must be between the MIN
and MAX filling lines (see: 'Operation / Filling the Water
Tank').
During operation, always ensure that the
pump will NOT empty the water tank com-
pletely to avoid damage to the pump.
