8.4 Test procedure with pedal dynamometer
(special accessory)
In conjunction with the Pedal Dynamometer Upgrade Kit, it is
possible to register the force applied to the brake pedal during the
course of the brake test. The level of force applied is included in
the printed report. There is no indication during the actual brake
test.
In order to measure the force applied to the pedal, attach the force
transducer to the brake pedal using the Velcro strip. The test
procedure is the same as described in 8.3.
Danger of tripping over!
The connecting lead must be routed in such a way as
to avoid the possibility of anyone tripping over it.
! The connecting lead must be kept away from moving parts of
the roller sets.
8.5
Four-wheel-drive test (uncontrolled RH/LH
rotation) (Optional accessory)
i The remote control optional accessory is required.
When the uncontrolled RH/LH rotation is used, the wheels on the
axle which is to be tested are driven in the opposite direction. The
braking force is measured for the forward-rotating wheel. A pedal
dynamometer is required to compare the braking forces of one
axle.
! The vehicles must be tested in accordance with the instruc-
tions issued by the appropriate vehicle manufacturer. In
particular, the correct tyre condition (same tyre type, tyre
pressure and tread depth) must be observed.
! The uncontrolled RH/LH rotation must not be used for
testing in accordance with StVZO (Regulations Authorising
the Use of Vehicles for Road Traffic) §29 or §41.
A TÜV report cannot be obtained.
i The braking force on the wheel cannot be precisely measu-
red without the effect of torque (permanent four-wheel
drive). When the pedal dynamometer is used, greater
braking-force differences can be identified.
Make sure that nobody is standing in the immediate
vicinity of the test bench.
Danger of life for anyone standing close to the
roller set!
Observe accident prevention regulations.
In the event of danger, turn the system
0
0
kN
off at the main switch.
! Drive vehicle slowly onto rollers.
Press the n button (F1),
The "Four-wheel drive" indicator lamp lights.
42
i The "Four-wheel drive" lamp is situated opposite the "Auto-
matic" lamp at the bottom left-hand side of the control-
cabinet display.
Press the l button (F4); the left roller set rotates forwards
and the right roller set rotates backwards.
Wait until the roller set has run up.
The left wheel can now be tested.
To test the right wheel, press the r button (F5).
The test sequence is implemented as described in Chapter 8.3
of the Operating Manual.
Leave the "Four-wheel drive" operating mode by pressing
the O button (F3).
8.6
Test sequence with weighing device
(special model)
If the special model with a BSA 25x weighing device is used, the
contact force of the wheel is automatically measured during the
brake analysis. These weight forces are stored and printed out on
Printout 1 (abridged report) as an axle weight.
This axle weight is printed out as 2 values (left and right). These
values are not wheel weights, as the BSA 25x roller set consists
of one compact frame. However, if the wheels are symmetrically
positioned during the test, these values correspond approximate-
ly to the wheel weights.
The wheel forces are also used for calculating the braking ratio.
i If a permitted total weight is input with the remote control (see
Chapter 9.1 of the Operating Manual), this weight takes
precedence over the measured weight forces.
