6.1.1

Putting into operation for the first time

Special operating conditions apply to putting a new genset into operation for the first time,
and it is essential that these are complied with:
ƒ For reasons of transport safety, the genset is delivered dry, in other words without engine
oil and fuel. These consumables must therefore first be topped up before the genset can
be put into operation for the first time. For detailed information about this, refer to the
chapter
ƒ Any transport fittings and packaging still present must be completely removed before
start-up.
ƒ All components must be checked to ensure that they are in proper condition and secure,
and must be repaired if necessary. Identified damage should be documented before
being remedied in order to safeguard any warranty claims, and should be reported to the
seller immediately.
If these conditions are fulfilled, a test run should be performed to check function and
tightness:
Make all preparations and adjustments for the test run that are described in the following
¨
chapters as starting preparations.
¨
Do not connect any consumers. The test run should be performed with no load.
¨
Start the genset and let it run for about 10 minutes.
¨
Observe the genset during the test run and ensure that the following criteria are fulfilled:
– All fuel lines are tight; no leakage at the engine housing.
– Following the warm-up phase, the running noise indicates that a constant engine
speed has been established.
Switch off the genset and check the oil level.
¨
¨
If no faults arise in the test run, use the genset as planned. However, it is essential
to observe the shorter oil change intervals that must be adhered to during the first
200 hours of operation, see
6.1.2

Checking readiness for start-up

Make sure that the installation site is suitable for operating the genset, see
¨
"4.2.1 Requirements for the place of use" on
¨
Make certain that the genset is in the proper condition:
– Pay attention to damage and to loose or missing parts.
– Remove dust and stuck-on materials from the housing's ventilation slots.
– Make sure that the air filter is present and in the proper condition, see
filter" on
¨
Check whether the consumables' filling levels are sufficient for uninterrupted operation:
– Top up the engine oil if necessary, see
– Top up the fuel if necessary, see
– Make sure that the tank and oil filler neck are properly closed.
Make sure that there are no objects (cleaning cloth, tools etc.) lying on the genset.
