4.2.1

Requirements for the place of use

Ventilation, soundproofing and electrical safety are the most important criteria that must be
in place wherever the genset is set up. Depending on the intended purpose and place of use,
special measures are necessary in order to guarantee safe operating conditions.
¨ Read the following instructions carefully and make sure that the specified conditions of
use are in place every time you set up the genset.
4.2.1.1 Operation outdoors
Ideal conditions of use are always in place when the genset can be set up outdoors so that
the following criteria are fulfilled:
ƒ The genset is well ventilated:
– The fresh air is sufficient for supplying combustion air and cooling air.
– Wind or ventilation rapidly transport away heat and exhaust gases.
ƒ The genset is sufficiently protected against environmental influences such as dust, wet or
direct sunlight.
ƒ Passive soundproofing is achieved by setting up the genset some distance from passers-
by and from the place where the consumers are in use (if possible maintain a distance of
> 10 m).
ƒ Unauthorised persons have no access to the genset (prevents incorrect operation,
sabotage, theft etc.).

Carbon monoxide in the exhaust
Danger of poisoning
Carbon monoxide is a colourless and odourless gas that massively inhibits
oxygen intake in humans and animals. Inhaling exhaust gas can cause
unconsciousness and death. Without sufficient ventilation, exhaust gas can
accumulate in dangerous quantities.
Avoid inhaling exhaust gas.
¨
¨ Operate the genset only outdoors. Always ensure that the working area is
well ventilated.
¨ When using a flexible exhaust hose, always bear in mind that it is not gas-
tight. It is only suitable for removing the main flow of exhaust gas from the
immediate proximity of the working area.
If you feel unwell or dizzy:
Go directly to the fresh air.

¨ Contact a doctor immediately and follow his/her instructions.
