- In accordance with European regulations, the identification form must be completed before the first use of the product and then updated and kept with the
product and the user manual.
- All static or dynamic overload can damage the anchor line.
- When necessary, we recommend using a protective rope to prevent the premature wear of the rope and to protect it from any possible risk.
- When using the positioning device, make sure when setting up and/ or when adjusting the lanyard that its anchor point is at or above waist level, that the
lanyard is kept tight and that free movement is limited to a maximum of0.60 m.
Before any PPE implementation operation, set up a rescue plan to deal
with any emergency that may occur during the operation.
Metal products and mechanical products (self retracting fall arrest device,
sliding, work on ropes, anchors etc. ...) : Maximum duration of 20 years
from the date of manufacture (including storage and use).
Textile products or those containing textile elements (harnesses, belts,
shock absorbers etc...): maximum life of 10 years in storage (from date of
manufacture), 7 years after the first use.
The shelf life is given as an indication. The following factors can cause it to
vary greatly:
- Non-compliance with the manufacturer's instructions for transport, storage
and use
- "Aggressive" work environment: marine atmosphere, chemicals, extreme
temperatures, sharp edges...
- Particularly intensive use
- Shock or significant constraint
- Disregard for the product item's history.
Warning: these factors can cause damage invisible to the naked eye.
Warning: certain extreme conditions can shorten the shelf life by a few
days.
If in doubt, always remove the product for it to undergo either:
- a review
- destruction
The shelf life is not a substitute for periodic verification (minimum annually)
which will assess the condition of the product.

No modification or addition or repair of the PPE may be made without prior
written consent from the manufacturer nor without using their procedures.
An examination should be performed at least every twelve months by the manufacturer or a competent organization, mandated by them. This very
important check is related to the maintenance and efficacy of the PPE and hence the user's safety. A written document authorising reuse should be
obtained during this audit in order to reuse the PPE. This document will clarify that the user's safety is linked to maintaining the efficiency and resistance of
the equipment.
(Fig. 16 & 17)- Before each use, check for proper operation of the equipment and examine in particular: that the product has no visible distortion, it has no
traces of oxidation, the fall indicator is not activated, the legibility of the markings.
- Check before use after having set the device up on its anchor line, that the locking of the device was done successfully ensuring that the representation
of the padlock used as a lock indicator (Rep. G, Fig.1) is fully visible in its window.
- Ensure that the rope passage points are free of mud, sand, etc., that there are no sharp edges and there are no traces of lubricating materials, glue or
paint.
- Ensure that the cam lock and its recall spring are working correctly and that they are not blocked. Make sure the locking system works properly and that
the springs act properly. Likewise, make sure the direction fail safe is free of any movement, that it is not distorted, that it has no sharp edges, that it returns
correctly and remains in its place during the use of the device.
- The characteristics of the anchor line and lanyard of the positioning device can change over time especially due to wear, friction, dirt, etc.. Consequently,
before each use, check the condition of the anchor line and the lanyard of the positioning device. Check that they do not have damaged threads,
hardening, changes in diameter, cuts. If in doubt, have a replacement made by a competent person.
- Ensure that the device is positioned in the right direction on its anchor line before use.
To avoid any risk, we recommend that before each use to ensure proper operation of the product, it is clean and that nothing can hinder the closing
mechanism of the CAMELEON® and the locking system.
The CAMELEON is used with a fall arrest system as defined in the description sheet (see EN363 standard). A fall arrest harness (EN361) is the only
body harness device that is permitted for use and the connecting elements must be compliant with the EN362. It can be dangerous to create your own fall
arrest system in which each safety function may interfere with another safety function. Therefore, before all use, consult the recommendations for use for
each system component. The description sheet should be completed after each annual audit of the product.
The CAMELEON must be used exclusively on the anchor line on which it was certified.
During transport and storage:
- keep the product in its packaging
- keep the product away from any sharp, abrasive, objects etc...
- Keep the product away from sunlight, heat, flames, hot metal, oil, petroleum products, harsh chemicals, acids, dyes, solvents, sharp edges and structures
of small diameter. These items can affect the performance of the fall arrest device.
After use, store the product in its packaging in a cool, dry, ventilated area.
- Keep the product away from direct sunlight, heat and chemicals (acids or bases).
Clean with soap and water, wipe with a cloth and hang in a ventilated area to dry naturally away from any direct fire or source of heat, even for items that
got wet during use.
Do not use bleach, harsh detergents, solvents, gasoline or colouring, these substances can affect the performance of the fall arrest device.

after a modification or use other than that provided in this manual.
Do not use this equipment beyond its limits.
To ensure its working condition and therefore the safety of the user, the
product should be checked systematically:
1/ visually inspect the following points:
-State of the strap or rope: no fraying, no boot cut, no visible damage at
seams, no burning and no unusual narrowing.
- Condition of the metal parts: no wear, no deformation, no corrosion or
oxidation.
- General condition: look for any possible damage due to ultraviolet
radiation and other climatic conditions
- Correct operation and locking connectors,
- Ensure that the operation of the karabiners is correct and that the
karabiners are locked before starting the intervention.
Specific conditions such as humidity, snow, ice, mud, dirt, paint, oil, glue,
corrosion, wear of the strap or rope, etc.. can significantly reduce the
operation of the fall arrest device.
2/ in the following cases:
- Before and during use
- if in doubt.
- In the case of contact with chemicals, solvents or fuels that could affect
operation.
- If it has been subjected to stress during a previous fall.
