g) Mounting the Rudder Unit

Push the rudder unit into the fuselage opening
(figure 5a) from behind and place it centrally on
the fuselage.
Measure the precise position of the rudder unit
to the elevator unit (see figure 5b).
The accuracy of this work considerably in-
fluences the flight properties.
When everything is measured perfectly, use a
pen to mark the fuselage for the precise positi-
on of the rudder unit (see figure 5a).
Then pull it out the from the fuselage again
and carefully remove the iron-on film within the
marks with a hot cutter knife.
Then you can attach the rudder unit permanent-

ly to the fuselage with 30-minute epoxy glue.
Align the rudder unit to the fuselage again as illustrated in figures 4b, 5a and 5b.
After the glue has cured, the elevator must be connected to the rudder to increase strength.
For this, produce the upper connection with two eyelets and a wire rope from the construction kit each and the lower
one with two ropes.
The ropes for the upper connection should be about 263 mm long. The ropes for the lower connection should have
a length of about 222 mm (measures from the centre of the hole of the first eyelet to the centre of the hole of the
second eyelet). The final assembly of the rope ends attached to the tail spur should be performed only after careful
measurement with the required length.
The ropes are crimped into the eyelets. For reasons of safety, the ends should be applied with a little 5 minute epoxy
resin before crimping.
Then drill a hole into the rudder unit in a suitable location with a 2 mm drill and attach the ropes at the left and right
with a screw M2 x 25 mm.
Only now measure the holes on the left and right of the elevator unit at the top and drill the holes for the attachment
screws M2 x 25 mm here as well with a 2 mm drill. The position of the holes must be chosen so that the ropes are
tensioned but the elevator unit is not distorted.
Attach the upper and lower ropes to the elevator unit with one screw M2 x 25 mm each. For the lower ropes, the two
open ends are connected to the tail spur at a later time (also see figure 6 and 7b).
The screws of the connection should be secured against coming loose with threadlocker varnish. Any protruding
threads must be shortened after final assembly.
Refer to figures 5c, 6 and 7b for this work step.
