j) Starting/stopping the engine
General information on the combustion engine
A break-in phase must be completed when using the engine for the first time. During the break-in phase, the engine
components are calibrated to ensure maximum performance and prevent premature engine wear.
The break-in phase must therefore be completed with extra care.
See sections 8h and 8i for more information on breaking in the engine.
Start-up process
The vehicle wheels must be able to turn freely. Place the vehicle on a suitable car stand.
• Keep the silencer closed and slowly pull the starter several times to draw fuel into the carburettor.
Repeat this step until there are no more air bubbles in the transparent pipe between the tank and the carburettor
and the fuel flows evenly into the carburettor.
Important!
Pull the starter to approximately 3/4 of its full length. Do not pull it to its full length. Determine the length of
the starter rope by slowly pulling it outwards (without a glow plug starter attached!).
Do not use any force when pulling on the starter rope!
If the starter rope is stiff, this indicates that the engine is flooded. If this occurs, refer to "Removing fuel from
a flooded engine" on the next page.
• Place a glow plug starter onto the glow starter with a fully charged starter battery. Ensure that the screw terminal on
the glow plug starter is firmly attached to the glow plug.
• Pull the starter rope quickly until the engine starts. Hold the model firmly with your other hand. Never place your
fingers into the drive components, as these may become loose when the friction clutch is engaged and cause an
injury!
• Once the engine has started, release the starter rope and remove the glow plug starter from the glow plug.
Only leave the glow plug starter connected for a short period when starting the engine, otherwise the glow
plug may burn out prematurely.
• If the starter rope only works when it is pulled with significant force after several failed start attempts, this indicates
that the engine is flooded (there is too much fuel in the combustion chamber and crankcase).
If this occurs, do not attempt to start the engine again. Remove the excess fuel to avoid damaging the starter and
the engine.
