h) Break-in instructions for the engine
The combustion engine must complete a break-in phase before it can be used normally.
This process has a decisive impact on the future performance and lifespan of the engine. For this reason,
observe the following break-in instructions carefully. Improper handling of the combustion engine may
cause damage and will void the warranty/guarantee!
Observe the following instructions for the initial break-in phase:
• Travel at a low speed (no full throttle).
• Operate the engine with an oily fuel-air mixture (a large amount of white smoke will be emitted from the exhaust).
• Drive the vehicle for short periods of time followed by cooling down intervals (approx. 3 minutes).
• The total break-in time (engine running time) is approximately 45 minutes. After completing the break-in phase, you
can use the engine at full speed.
The addition of nitromethane in the model fuel increases the ignitability of the fuel and thereby the performance of the
engine. During the break-in phase, use a model fuel with a small amount of nitromethane in order to avoid overheating
the engine. The fuel should have a higher percentage of oil to improve the lubrication of the engine until the piston
and cylinder are run in.
In order to ensure that you can use the full speed range, the engine should be allowed to run for 2-4 tanks at an "oily"
carburettor setting.
The carburettor is preset to an optimal fuel mixture setting for the first few drives. An oily carburettor setting
is used to ensure that the engine is sufficiently lubricated during the break-in phase. A large amount of white
smoke should be emitted from the exhaust pipe (burnt oil).
This oily carburettor setting should be kept for the first 2 - 4 tank refills. In addition, avoid using the vehicle
at full throttle for prolonged periods, and use different rev speeds to break in the engine.
First break-in phase
• Leave the glow plug starter inserted and let the engine warm up for approximately 1 minute without using the throt-
tle. If necessary, unscrew the main nozzle needle a little (the flow rate will increase).
• Remove the glow plug starter after one minute.
• Drive the vehicle for 2 - 3 minutes at a time with cool-down intervals of approximately 10 minutes. Increase the
speed slightly with short throttle bursts (do not use full throttle!).
The engine will be very noisy and the model will be slow to respond (do not let the engine run when the vehicle is
stationary – ensure that the vehicle moves, otherwise the cooling system will not function properly).
• Allow the engine to cool down after each engine run (10 minutes). The mixture can then be made leaner by carefully
turning the main nozzle needle in stages (maximum 1/16 turn each time).
