GENERAL SAFETY NOTES

GENERAL SAFETY NOTES
• A lways comply with the national statutory provisions and traffic rules of the respective
country where you are using the bike. In Germany, these provisions are specified in St-
VZO and StVO.
• Every participant in public transport must act in such a way which does not endanger,
DANGER
harm or unavoidably disturb or hinder anyone else beyond the circumstances. There-
fore, always ride foresightedly and considerately. Take other road users into considera-
tion.
• According to the law, you are not obligated to wear a helmet. However, do wear a bicy-
cle helmet for your own safety to avoid head injury! We recommend using PROPHETE
WARNING
bicycle helmets tested to DIN EN 1078.
• Y ou must only ride your bicycle on public roads and paths when it has the equipment
legally required in your country.
In Germany, these requirements are specified in road traffic licensing regulation
(Straßenverkehrs-Zulassungs-Ordnung; StVZO).
According to the StVZO, a bicycle in Germany requires:
- two brakes that work independently of each other,
- a clearly audible bell,
- a functional front headlight and a tail light,
- spoke reflectors or reflecting side stripes on the rim or tyres,
- pedal reflectors,
- a white reflector facing forwards (if not integrated in the headlights),
- one red reflectors facing backwards (Z-reflector).
• Technical changes may only be made in accordance with the legal regulations prevail-
ing in your country (Germany: StVZO (German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations)) and
the DIN EN ISO specified on the rating plate, as well as any other component-specific
standards. This specifically applies to safety-relevant parts, such as the frame, fork,
handlebar, stem, saddle, seat post, luggage carrier (ISO 11243), all brake components
(specifically brake lever & brake linings), lights, foot pedal, wheels, trailer couplings,
tyres and tubes. Danger of breakage, damage and accidents!
• Ride with particular caution in bad weather, such as wet, snow or ice, or delay your ride
to a later time. In particular the brake performance may reduce strongly in detriment
weather! Danger of accident!
• Always switch on the lighting in bad visibility conditions! Consider that not only you will
see better when the lighting is on, but that other road users will be able to see you bet-
ter as well. Danger of accident!• Prefer very visible clothing with light colours and re-
flection stripes so that other road users can see you better and sooner.
Danger of accident!
• The bicycle has turning and movable pats. Wrong clothing, improper handling or lack
of attention leads to danger of injury.
− Wear close-fitting trousers. Use cycle clips if necessary.
− Make sure that clothes that hang down cannot get into the spikes, e.g. in case of
scarves or cords.
− Wear slip-proof shoes with a stiff sole that provide enough support to the foot.
• Keep the operating instructions with care and pass them on when selling or giving
away the bicycle.
