b) Preparations for engine start

• The mix preparation on the carburettor takes place with two needles.
The main nozzle needle (1) is located directly near the
fuel connection (2). With this needle, the fuel amount is
adjusted for full throttle run.
At the beginning the engine is run with an extremely
"rich" setting. The further the needle is turned in clock-
wise direction, the "leaner" the mix. Doing this, the en-
gine will increase the power and therefore the speed
increases up to a maximum.
The idle motion needle (3) is located in the carburettor
slide (4). With this needle the fuel amount is adjusted
for idle motion and therefore also the speed transition
from idle motion to full throttle.
The function is carried out according to the same procedure as with the main nozzle needle. The
spray nozzle that is secured with a coupling nut (see illustration 14, pos. 4), must not be readjusted.
• The needles on the carburettor are already factory preset. The settings must not be changed for the
first engine start. Should an adjustment be still be necessary, turn the main nozzle needle up to the
limit stop and afterwards open the needle, turning it approx. 3.75 to 4.5 turns.
The idle motion needle is also opened from a closed state and turned about 4 turns.
These settings are only a clue, since the final adjustment depends of the fuel and glow
plugs used.
• Fill the tank of the vehicle with fuel. A tank bottle with a filler neck is the most suitable.
• First of all, turn on the transmitter and afterwards the receiver and check the correct function of the
carburettor slider and the steering.
c) Starting and running-in of engine
The power of your engine stands and falls with the correct setting of the carburettor.
Ultimately, the instructions can only show you important info and approaches. You have
to develop the necessary "instinctive feel" for your engine through practical adjustments.
Since the carburettor reacts notedly sensitive to changes of the setting, you must only
turn the respective needles extremely gradually. If you look at the setting screws of the
carburettor needles as if it was a clock face, an adjustment of "5 minutes" for the setting
the maximum speed, can already be too much.
