Device mechanical functions
Mechanical Lock
To engage mechanical lock, press mechanical lock button from the left (Fig. 6). To unlock, press the lock button from the right.
Supported activities
The device automatically adapts to activities such as walking, standing up and more. It has several different states that the patient must learn to
recognize and activate.
Standing State
The device will provide support when the patient applies weight to the prosthesis. The knee will release/swing freely when the prosthesis is unloaded/
no weight is applied to it. The patient can take small steps and turns in a natural and physiological way.
Standing and Locking
When locked, the device can support full loading.
To lock the device in full extension:
1. Fully extend the device.
2. Press the mechanical lock button.
To unlock the device:
1. Push the knee in hyperextension.
2. Press the mechanical lock button.
Walking on Level Ground
The device provides adaptive support in stance phase to ensure consistent support and controlled swing motion. The device automatically adapts to the
patient's walking speed and style.
To walk on level ground:
1. Before the first step, put weight onto the device to trigger the standing state.
2. Take the first step with either the sound limb or prosthetic limb and continue walking at a preferred pace.
If using a cane or a crutch, the patient must take care to put weight on the device during stance to maintain support.
Sitting Down
The device provides yielding resistance, allowing the patient to distribute weight equally to both legs and control speed while sitting down.
To sit down:
1. Stand in front of the chair.
2. Put weight on the device.
3. Lean back slightly and start flexing the knee until it yields.
4. Load the device and use the bodyweight to maintain a continuous knee flexion until seated. Once in a sitting position, the device is unlocked and
moves freely.
Standing Up
To stand up from a seated position:
1. Ensure that the prosthetic foot is placed directly under the knee.
2. Apply weight onto prosthetic foot. Placing hands on knees helps to maintain equal weight distribution.
3. Begin to stand up. The device will allow smooth extension all the way to the standing state.
Walking Up Ramps
Walking up ramps requires no change from level ground walking.
Caution: Always use the handrail when walking up ramps.
Walking Down Stairs and Ramps
Caution: Always use the handrail when you walk down ramps and stairs.
The knee will give support while it flexes when walking down ramps and stairs.
To walk down stairs or ramps:
1. Take the first step down with the prosthesis.
2. Put weight on the prosthesis. Lean slightly backwards to flex the knee. The knee will flex and give support.
